Baby blankets are some of the most popular crochet projects ever. They make impressive baby shower gifts. Since babies are prone to wetting their bedding and spitting up on it, they need bunches of blankets; it’s a given that new moms sometimes have a hard time keeping up with the laundry their newborns generate. It’s no wonder that so many crochet enthusiasts are constantly on the lookout for new crochet baby blanket patterns.

If you’re interested in crocheting some lovely baby blankets, I invite you to consider this list featuring my picks for some of the best baby blanket pattern books I’ve come across.

Please keep in mind that there are many lovely baby blanket patterns on the market other than these. In most cases, I’ve included these specific books on the list because I’ve had fantastic results with actually crocheting at least one of the projects included, or at least enough of a project that I can confidently give you an objective recommendation for the book. In a few other cases, I haven’t actually crocheted the patterns, but I do own the books, and have spent enough time looking at them and going through the instructions that I feel confident in recommending the books to you.

Want to crochet colorful baby blankets featuring cute pictorial designs? That describes most of the projects in this book, although there’s also one vibrantly-colored stripe design for a bit of variety.

The blankets in this book are all crocheted using the corner-to-corner technique. If you aren’t familiar with the technique yet, the book does include a tutorial for it — although I think you might find it easier to learn corner-to-corner crochet by taking a video class. The highlight of the book is the 5 beautiful blanket patterns.

Tunisian Crochet for Baby

By Sharon Silverman; Published by Stackpole Books

The patterns included in Tunisian Crochet for Baby are all patterns for baby projects. They’re all worked in the Tunisian crochet technique utilizing a long crochet hook and rows worked in two passes, the forward pass and the return. The stitches differ somewhat from traditional crochet stitches, with some of them appearing and performing more like knitted stitches.

3 of the projects included in this book are baby blankets, and the rest are baby clothes and accessories. The blankets in this book are particularly nice ones, which is one reason why I’ve included this book on the list of best crochet baby blanket patterns. Here are a few other reasons:

  • No matter what your crochet skill level is right now, it’s likely to take a step forward after you’re finished working your way through the patterns in this book. There’s a lot to learn here.
  • The baby blankets in this book are appealing to many crocheters, as I found out when I posted about this book in my craft blog on another website. More than 50 crafters commented on my blog post to let me know they liked one or more projects in the book, and almost all of them chose one of the baby blankets as their favorite.
  • I enjoyed success with making one of the projects from this book, and I found the crochet instructions for the project to be clear and straightforward.
